Applying to investors

How to apply, what happens after you do, and what the application statuses mean.

How do I apply?

When you've found an investor you'd like to approach, click Apply on their card. There's nothing for you to write, your pitch page does that job for you.

If they're a public listing, we'll take you over to their own site to apply there.

If Apply isn't available, it means your round doesn't meet one of that investor's essential criteria.

There's more on how that works in How investor fit works.

What do the application statuses mean?

Every application carries a status, so you can always see where it's got to.

  • Pending: Received, and being checked against the investor's criteria

  • Screening: With the investor, who's deciding whether to take it forward

  • Introduced: The investor has accepted your application

  • Passed: Not going ahead this time

  • Expired: No decision within 30 days

What does Introduced mean?

Good news. The investor has accepted your application, and they'll either message you in the platform or ask for an introduction by email. You'll find them in your My investors tab from then on.

What does Expired mean?

If an investor hasn't made a decision within 30 days, the application expires and moves to your Passed tab.

We know that's a frustrating one. Investors are busy and tend to act on the rounds they're actively pursuing, so a quiet application usually isn't a reflection on your business. It can still be picked up later.

Will I find out why an investor passed?

Usually, yes. Your fit with each investor shows where your round lined up with their criteria and where it didn't, and that stays there after a pass. Some investors add a comment of their own on top.

There's more in Investor feedback.
