Passing on a startup

How to pass on a startup, whether to give a reason, and how to reopen an application.

Not every startup will be right for you, and passing is a normal part of working through your deal flow.

How do I pass on a startup?

Open the startup and press Pass. You'll be asked whether you'd like to add a reason.

Do I have to give a reason?

No, that's up to you. If you do, it goes straight to the founder, and it also helps us sharpen what reaches you next time.

Founders get very little back when they're raising, so a line or two goes further than you'd think.

What does the founder see?

That the application isn't going ahead, and your reason if you left one.

Can I change my mind after passing?

Yes, at any time. Open the startup and reopen their application, and it comes back into your deal flow.

Contact stays unavailable while a startup is passed, so if you want to get back in touch you'll need to reopen it first.

What about startups you passed on for me?

Those show as Not a fit. You can reopen any of them the same way if you'd like a proper look after all.
